During your initial consultation in our Virgina Beach office, we will spend time getting to know you. We’ll evaluate your dental health and discuss oral health care solutions that can provide you with the best possible smile.

It’s about you

Michael P. Folck, DDS understands that your time is valuable and that you don’t want to spend a lot of time waiting in a dentist’s office. When you schedule your consultation, we’ll provide you with a new patient form ahead of time by mail or email, or you can download the forms yourself and fill them out at your convenience and bring in or email back.

When we evaluate your needs, we’ll take time to chat and get to know you. We understand that you may have anxieties about visiting a dentist’s office and may have lots of questions about the procedures that are right for you.

Our consultations last about an hour and a half so that we can come up with the best treatment plan to fit your individual needs. During that time we’ll review your medical health history and talk to you about any medical concerns you have.

Your comprehensive examination

We’ll conduct a comprehensive examination to assess your oral health. The inside of your mouth will be examined and we’ll prepare a dental chart to give us an overview of the condition of your teeth.

As part of this examination, we’ll take a set of photos of your full face and mouth. This will allow us to track your progress as you continue treatment. If needed, we’ll take full-mouth digital x-rays to obtain more detailed information about your dental health. We may also use our intraoral digital cameras to get a good look at your mouth as well as the Diagnodent laser cavity detection system. Finally, the ViziLite system may be used to check for early signs of oral cancer.

Dr. Folck will discuss the results of your exam with you, and discuss possible treatment options to address any problems that came up. You will be given all your options along with Dr. Folck's recommendations.

Evaluating TMJ syndrome or TMD symptoms

At Dr. Folck, DDS, we know that your dental health can have a big impact on many aspects of your life. That’s why we’ll also evaluate you to see if you have any symptoms of temporomandibular joint disorder (TMJ, sometimes called TMD). These symptoms arise when your bite isn’t optimally aligned and could be causing headaches and other painful symptoms. We use state of the art technology to detect TMJ/TMD early, and can provide successful neuromuscular treatment.
