New Patient Request

Dentures have been used to provide a solution for missing teeth for thousands of years. Many people have memories of their grandparents removing dentures at night to soak in a glass on the bedside table. But modern dentures have come a long way in both comfort and appearance, offering an ideal solution for patients who are not interested in, or are not ideal candidates for other forms of artificial tooth replacement.

Types of Dentures

There are two types of dentures:

  • Partial dentures that can be used to replace one to several missing teeth
  • Full dentures that can be used to replace entire rows or full sets of teeth

Full dentures are sometimes necessary but may have retention or stability problems. These can be overcome by anchoring dentures with dental implants.

Denture Pros and Cons

Dentures provide increased function and appearance for people who are missing teeth. Additionally, caring for dentures is simple, and many people find cleaning them easier than caring for their natural teeth.

Dentures are a good way to replace missing teeth, but they do not provide the comfort that other tooth replacement options offer. Dentures also do not help maintain the bone structure of your jaw. Over time, your jaw may begin to collapse and shrink with denture use, resulting in increased discomfort.

Every mouth is entirely unique. Working closely with you, Dr. Michael Folck can help you determine if dentures are an appropriate solution for your missing teeth.
